Our vision
The Kentucky Black Student Union Conference aims to bring local BSU chapters together to discuss collaborative efforts, as well as organizational, professional, and leadership development training for students and advisors. Conference attendees will also discuss national trends, and challenges facing college campuses. The ultimate goal is to provide BSU chapters and members with the training and leadership skills to consistently succeed and improve. The Kentucky Black Student Union Conference currently partners with 7 schools throughout the Kentucky region. All students are welcomed to attend.
Organizational Development Workshops
Building Better BSU Chapters
Creative workshops are developed to enhance organizational efficiency and effectiveness. Some topics include event planning, member recruitment, marketing, fundraising, and student organization advising.
Professional and Leadership Development Workshops
Developing Leaders
Additional workshops highlight professional and leadership development skills for attendees to maximize their leadership capacity and professional development. Some topics include strengths-based leadership, learning your values, and marketing yourself online.
Special Topics Presentation
Challenging Critical Consciousness
Select presentations will encourage thoughtful discourse and highlight social justice issues, race relations, U.S. politics, and more.

The graduate school process can be challenging, and even confusing. Conference attendees have the opportunity to engage with current graduate students about things to consider before pursuing graduate students, and how to transfer their experiences to graduate school.

Dr. Rodmon King
Dr. Rodmon King
Dr. Rodmon King joined Centre College in 2015 as associate vice president for academic affairs and diversity initiatives.
King came to Centre from Hobart and William Smith (HWS), where he served on campus committees such as the Committee on the Faculty, the Committee on Academic Affairs, and the Committee on Diversity, Equity and Social Justice. He has also served on several advisory boards, including the HWS Higher Education Opportunities Program, the Centennial Center of Leadership, and the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning. King’s hiring coincided with Centre’s $750,000 award from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation for a four-year project to enhance diversity and inclusion on campus.
For his many efforts, King has received numerous accolades, including the Community Service Award from the Geneva, N.Y., Chapter of the NAACP, the HWS Annual Faculty Teaching Award, the SANKOFA Faculty Leadership Award and a Higher Education Opportunities Program Faculty Award.
King earned his B.A. in religion and philosophy at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, N.Y. His M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in philosophy were both earned at the University of Rochester. His research and teaching interests are in the areas of social justice, ethical theory, African/African philosophy, philosophy of race, ancient Greek philosophy, applied ethics, environmental philosophy and philosophy of language.
